To me, Chicago is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. From seeing the city skyline while laying out on the sandy shore of Lake Michigan, walking through the trees lining Millenium Park, to visiting the multitude of art and history museums, Chicago has something amazing to offer to anyone that is fortunate enough to explore this unique city.
Here is a list of my favorite things to do, see, and eat from the times I have visited Chicago (which usually only happens in the summer…I’ll admit it π).
Best Things To Do & See
Lake Michigan
The lake during the summer is so beautiful! It feels like an ocean beach with the beautiful water, sand, and is a perfect place to relax. The lake was not very crowded especially during the weekdays! If you visit Chicago in the summer this is a place you have to visit. I love North Avenue Beach!
Lincoln Park Zoo
This was such a fun bonus that we accidentally ran into when exploring the city. This zoo has *free* admission (who doesn’t love that?) and has so many amazing animals including giraffes, gorillas, zebras, and a polar bear! It was a bit too hot when we went so we didn’t see too many animals, but it was an amazing time!
Millenium Park
This, of course, is one of the most iconic areas in Chicago. It is a must-see; the Lurie Garden, Crown Fountain, and Cloud Gate (the bean)! It is such a beautiful sight and it is no wonder why this area is so well-known. The bean and its glistening finish made Chicago look that much more beautiful.
Navy Pier
This cute pier on the shore of Lake Michigan is so cute. There is a Ferris wheel, fun food, and overall it is such a cute place to see! It reminds me of Santa Monica Pier in LA.
Blarney Island
This place is so unique! According to Google the best way to describe it is a “Caribbean-themed party bar & music venue a mile offshore serving adult boaters (or shuttle riders)”. It is a fun bar in the middle of the water where there is a stage and live music! Such a unique and fun experience.
Best Things to Eat
Firecakes
This donut place was so yummy! They are known for their donut ice cream sandwiches, but I got the Tahitian Vanilla Iced donut and it was so fluffy! Amazing icing, would recommend for a fresh and delicious donut.
Molly’s Cupcakes
I have tried the RASPBERRY WHITE CHOCOLATE, CRΓME BRΓLΓE, & PEACH COBBLER cupcakes. My favorite was the peach because it has vanilla cake, cinnamon peach puree, brown sugar streusel, homemade whipped cream, and a sliced peach. This place has the top 10 best cupcakes in the nation, and it is probably the best one I’ve ever eaten.
Jeni’s Ice Creams
We ran into this place on the 4th of July! As we were trying to escape the heat, we ran into this ice cream store that had a line coming out the door! I tried the Brown Butter Almond Brittle and the Frose…and it was to die for!
Matcha Cafe
This place is for matcha lovers! They have everything from lattes to dessert.
Taste Chicago (I’m going to be doing a whole post about this…it was that fun)
Garrett’s Popcorn
This is where you can get that classic “chicago style” popcorn (mixture of cheddar and caramel popcorn) and the combo is soooo good! The salty and sweet are so good together.
Lou Malnati’s Deep Dish
This was honestly probably the best pizza I’ve ever had. The buttery crust, the texture of the cheese, the flavorful tomato sauce, and the abundance of sausage was AMAZING. A must have if you are in the area.
As you can see there is so much to do/see/& eat in Chicago! What are your favorite spots?
